Former Vice President Joe Biden picked California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate in the 2020 Presidential election. The pick marks the first time in history an African-American female will be nominated for vice president by a major political party.

Senator Harris has been in the Senate since January, 2017 and was the Attorney General of California before that. She's the second African-American woman ever to be elected to the Senate. Ms. Harris is known as a pragmatic left-of-center Democrat who is solidly on the left on most issues, but willing to negotiate with political adversaries to advance certain pieces of important legislation, most recently as being a leader in the recent criminal justice reform legislation President Trump signed into law.

Personally, I think this is a safe and smart pick for Mr. Biden. She is a savvy politician who almost certainly won't be able to be painted as too "extreme" by those on the right. I have a feeling the ticket is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

What does everyone else think of Biden's pick? Do you think it was a good choice or should he have gone with someone else?

Good pick when you consider all his options, and that he painted himself into a corner by saying months ago he was going to pick a female. Glad he did, but still, he limited himself in that way, however you look at it.

I like Harris in a lot of ways, but I am very leery of her stances on criminal justice and sentencing, based on her record. But I do agree she is a smart choice if the aim is to not give the GOP an obvious target. If the right tries to continue to make the argument that extreme leftists are taking over the Dem party, all they have to do is look at this ticket and that will be a very tough sell to anyone paying even a little bit of attention.

Biden is a little more progressive than Obama, but basically in the same mold. And Harris is far from a super progressive liberal, not even anywhere close to Warren or Sanders, and even further from AOC and the new left being ushered in.

I think Harris was the best decision Biden could have made. It turned Biden's campaign into something much more than just the stereotypical runner. It turned it into not only being a part of defeating Trump, but also being a part of nominating the very first African-American woman to be nominated for VP. Harris brings in numerous groups that Biden most likely didn't have before. That was wise and I think it will pay off.
