No question the IRS is not a well liked organization. As John Oliver from Last Week Tonight points out, the IRS combines two things that Americans seriously hate doing: giving their money away, and math.

Since it's almost Tax Day, here's a timely video from his show, trying to remind everyone that even though its understandable that the IRS isn't liked, it is necessary to our government's process. Disclaimer - It's an HBO clip, so it's not PG rated. Funny stuff though, enjoy..

Thanks for sharing this. I watched it the other day and thought it was hilarious. It also helped remind us that the IRS is just doing their job and that they are just as stressed as the rest of us this time of year.

I feel sorry for many that work for the IRS. They remind me of post office workers; they all seem a bit miserable. It is a shame the backlash they get though. So many are really smart. And every time I call the IRS help line, honestly they are pretty helpful, as long as you don't cope an attitude with them. I'm sure that happens to them as much as any collection agency rep gets though, and that sucks I'm sure to be in that position so often.

They just seem so bogged down with customer care, and I'm sure its really irritating having to deal with the same tired questions, day in day out. Not to mention all the changes every tax season. Like the video says, there are literally hundreds of changes to the tax code almost every year. ... From every angle, their jobs are super stressful and difficult.

I definitely agree. They are just the people who enforce the rules our politicians pass. I've never had a bad experience communicating with the IRS. I agree that they are really helpful whenever I've had to deal with them. It's a thankless job, but they do it well.
