Thank you for your service, Cynthia.

You absolutely qualify *as long as you are not the dependent of another taxpayer*, but you may have to update your information with the IRS if you are not typically required to file a Federal tax return.

Here's some good info for you:

VA Benefits: Disabled Veteran, Pension, & Survivor Benefits Recipients: Veterans receiving benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs for VA disability benefits, pensions, and survivors’ benefits will be treated the same as those receiving SS, SSDI, SSI benefits and do qualify for stimulus checks. For instance, a veteran whose only income is a veterans’ disability payment is eligible as long as they are not the dependent of another taxpayer.

However, if you are not required to file a Federal tax return then you will need to go to the online portal the IRS set up and enter your contact and banking information if you choose to receive your payment via direct deposit. If you choose to receive your payment via check then you will still get it, but it may take months longer to get your stimulus check.

    I hope this helps.

If you do opt to wait in the mail for the check, they are sending out checks by lowest to highest income, starting 4/24. This is the timetable for the IRS to send out stimulus checks based on income, copied in part from our stimulus timetable thread:

    Timeline and Income Levels

    April
    24th: income up to $10,000

    May ($10,001 - $60,000)
    1st: 10k - $20k
    7th: $20k - $30k
    15th: $30k - $40k
    22nd: $40k - $50k
    29th: $50k - $60k

Assuming you are only receiving your VA benefits, you should be one of the first to get a check in the mail, either late April or early to mid May.

The VA is working with the IRS now to get stimulus checks for disabled veterans automatically direct deposited into the same acct/card you currently get VA benefits from. Meaning you will no longer be required to use the Non-Filer portal. As of the article, 4/17, they are estimating it could take a few weeks to process.

VA, Treasury will automatically send stimulus checks to veterans

JaredS is correct though, you can't be claimed as a dependent to get the stimulus.
