A common misconception about Medicare Part D is that you don't need to sign up for it if you aren't currently taking any prescriptions. It is true that you are not required to sign up for Medicare Part D, but it is highly recommended, even if you aren't currently taking any prescription drugs. This is because you will be charged a penalty for waiting to sign up and that penalty only goes up as time goes on. And this penalty is not cheap. It may wind up costing you twenty to thirty percent more if you wait to get your coverage.

Is anyone currently enrolled in Medicare Part D? Did you purchase the coverage when you signed up for Medicare or did you wait until you needed to get a prescription and have to pay the penalty?
