Every state runs their Section 8 Housing programs a little different. And to apply, you first need to contact your local PHA (Public Housing Agency). Thought I would share some info for those interested or looking for info on how to apply, or where to get started on this process. Keep in mind, there is a great demand and small supply of vouchers, depending upon the state you live in, so it's important to remain patient and vigilant throughout the process. It's not unheard of for the wait to be years. In fact, the average US wait time has been cited several times to be around 2 years of wait list processing for your turn.
To apply, this is the best place to get started: HUD.GOV, stands for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. You can chose your state via a drop down, and it gives you all the local PHA info needed to start the process. Here's the link: PHA Contact Information
I recently had to help a friend go through this process. It's not particularly difficult. But beginning the process can be a little stressful, if you don't know the first place to look.
