The Obama Administration is giving everyone one last chance to sign up for health insurance coverage in 2015. The 'extra enrollment period' will be from 3/15 to 4/30. You will still be responsible to pay the tax for whatever months you are without coverage in 2015, but that would be it.

This is only for individuals who don't qualify for a 'special enrollment period.' Those who qualify for a special enrollment period can sign up for coverage at anytime during the year. These special exemptions include getting married, having a child, adopting a child, losing your prior health coverage, moving, becoming a United States citizen, getting released from prison, becoming a member of a federally recognized tribe, or having a change in your income or household status.

I'm glad to see that those who missed the deadline will have one more chance to do so. Don't forget to sign up before April 30th!

    That is nice to know.

Does anyone know if this only applies to people who don't have insurance yet, or can people who do have insurance but want to change their coverage also take advantage of this extension?

Today marks the first day of the special enrollment period. Those of you who missed the initial deadline are now able to sign up for coverage until April 30th of this year. If you do not sign up for coverage by that date then you will have to pay the tax penalty for not having coverage. You can begin shopping for your coverage by visiting Healthcare.gov.
