Republican National Convention Schedule, and Trump's Family Headliners

    Looks like this Republican national convention will be mostly of Trump's family. Has that ever happened before? Convention will be a 4 day affair. On day 1, Melania Trump (Trump's current wife) headlines. Day 2, Trump's kids Tiffany Trump and Donald Trump Jr. will talk. Day 3 we will see another son, Eric Trump. And then on Day 4, Ivanka and The Donald himself.

    What do you make of this? Will this help or hurt Trump's image within the RNC and the nationally spotlight? Or does it even matter anymore?

    Other speakers of note for the convention will be:

    Many of the former Presidential hopefuls - Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Newt Gingrich, Chris Christie, Rick Perry. Then there will be many state and national Senators (all Republican of course), former and current Governors, some athletes, some veterans, and other various celebs.

    Dana White, UFC promotional head man, will be speaking. Thought that was interesting.

    Also, this is the event where Trump will be officially announced as the GOP nominee, as well as where Trump will officially announce his running mate (which will be Mike Pence). The convention is to be called "Make America Great Again", Trump's long time slogan. And each day will be a play on that:

    Day 1 (July 18th) - Make America Safe Again
    Day 2 (July 19th) - Make America Work Again
    Day 3 (July 20th) - Make America First Again
    Day 4 (July 21st) - Make America One Aagin

    I can't think of a single convention I've watched that showcased a nominees family in the way Trump is. It might make sense considering they were having a hard time getting many politicians to speak, so what better way to fill valuable air time than with people who know Trump the best? It'll be interesting to see if it works or not.

    Well that surely didn't go as they had hoped.

    Plagiarism is a big no-no in this day and age. They had to have known that there are teams of researchers and fact-checkers on the other side that is digesting each and every word and just waiting for someone to do something that will hurt their campaign.

    This is pretty much the worst thing that could have happened on the first day of the convention. And it was an entirely self-inflicted wound.

    I honestly have no idea what in the world the Trump camp was thinking. How in the world did they think no one would notice?

    Now Republican operatives who get interviewed by the media are being forced to talk about Melania Trump's plagiarism instead of highlighting different aspects of the first day of the convention.

    And I just don't understand why the Trump campaign is doubling down and insisting that there was no plagiarism. Admit that a speechwriter messed up; announce that he/she has been fired; and move on.

    Is interesting. I think it's similar; doesn't seem like a straight rip though. You be the judge (unless someone has a better vid that shows more in depth comparison??) --

    I think it's more than similar. This is straight up plagiarism. Any college professor who utilizes a plagiarism database would give her an F. Just because something isn't verbatim doesn't mean it's not plagiarized.

    Her speech writers basically copy and pasted back to back paragraphs from Michelle Obama's speech and changed a couple words.

    I actually feel bad for Mrs. Trump because I have a feeling she trusted whoever wrote the speech for her to actually understand that we live in a modern world where we can instantly fact-check things. I don't think she did anything maliciously and most likely just read what was on the teleprompter, but that doesn't excuse it.

    Your point reminds me of something just as bad about these speeches in general.. she didn't write the speech herself at all (if that's true, which seems a guarantee at this point). So if it's a plagiarized version of Michelle's 08 speech, or she is just reading original words written by someone else, I don't think it changes the disingenuous of the matter. Either way, they aren't her words. She is talking to the Republican Party about how awesome and great and strong and whatever her husband is, and she couldn't even be bothered to write it out herself?

    Plagiarized or not, if they aren't her words, the entire speech is just useless pandering. It's not like she was giving a State of the Union speech or anything. I feel the same way no matter who is speaking. If all you are doing is speaking "from the heart" to a group of people, and don't have to endlessly make sure everything is fact checked, and you can't write the speech yourself, you shouldn't be on the stage.

    Many speeches have the same phrases and rhetoric. I wasn't too bothered by the similarities or stealing or whatever. What Michelle said back in 08 wasn't particularly unique or new. Bothers me more that Trump's wife agreed to speak, using someone else's words to elicit unity.

    most Immigrants face the challenge of learning another language . . . English is Melania Trump's 5th language. Who would go to a national stage with thousands of people and a speech with millions and not have someone assist you with a speech if it was to be given in your 5th language? . . . People are too hard on immigrants where learning another language is concerned, in my opinion. The speech that is claiming "plagiarism" from Michelle Obama, was also "plagiarism" by Michelle Obama . . . in my opinion it was just all women in similar roles wanting to inspire and uplift the people to whom they were speaking and using words that reflected their true feelings of all good mothers!! youtu.be/uZJUKiSZrPY
