I'll start off with providing the study (and true/false quiz included) with this link -

MassMutual Research: Survey Shows Concerning Knowledge Deficiency about Social Security Retirement Benefits

Basically out of 1,513 people that took this 10 question, basic knowledge, true/fasle quiz about SS benefits, only 28% passed (getting 7/10 or better questions correct). Even more shockingly, only 1 single person got all 10 TRUE/FALSE questions correct. The law of guessing averages should allow for more than 1/1513 to get 10 questions correct, wouldn't you think?!

Must be really hard, or difficulty worded, right? Not really. Here are the questions, try it for yourself:

Test your Social Security knowledge with this brief quiz

Curious on what you scored. I got a 5/10 myself, and I've done a decent amount of research on the subject. So I think this goes to show that Social Security benefits are far too confusing and there are far too many myths out there about the facts of receiving benefits. Question becomes, what can we do about this, in light of this study?

7/10 here. I really think this study is indicative of how little the government wants you to know about social security. It's just like laws, they write them to make them complicated so that they can confuse. I believe that anything involving you, money and the government have been complicated on purpose. I'm sure there are many retirees out there who are only getting a fraction of what they are owed by the government. It's just very sad.

First and foremost, we should be pushing for clearer definitions and qualification when it comes to SS eligibility. I agree, I think they do this on purpose. When you dig deep into a government program such as SS, it gets pretty dark, fast. Of course, we all hope for transparency when it comes to the government, but we are constantly reminded with issues such as these that most of the governments dealings are far from transparent.

Not transparent is a good point. Just overly complicated. Unfair too especially for the people that have been paying thousands into the program each and every year of their entire working lives, just expecting to simply get back a monthly stipend for what they paid for in the first place.

It really sucks that it seems to feel sometimes that this money is somehow a handout for people to get; like they don't really deserve it and we shouldn't have to pay up because of the cost.. This money isn't government given, it's fully funded by citizen's taxes. Or at least it started that way. And that's the way it should be, and should remain. It's a forced retirement account for senior citizens. And all this convolution that gets in the way of them getting what they paid in is what's most wrong with government bureaucracy.

6/10. I wonder what the employees in a random SS local office would get??
