If your house gets destroyed in a flood or fire, can you qualify for disaster relief on your taxes? Actually, better question.. if someone's house gets partially destroyed by one of those two, can you? I was reading up on Disaster Relief on the IRS website, and it's clear that if the government deems the disaster a national travesty, like Hurricane Katrina or Sandy for example, than you can. But what about the natural devastation that only impacts a few, and doesn't make national news headlines. Asking for a friend; any and all help is greatly appreciated.
